This ceremony takes place in the Orthodox Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem in such a way that bewilders the soul of the Christians. On Easter Saturday, at noon, the Orthodox Patriarch, or any other Orthodox Archbishop, enters the Holy Sepulchre, recites special prayers and remains waiting. Sometimes the waiting is long, sometimes short. The crowd, in the darkened church, repeats continually with a loud voice: “Lord, have mercy.” (Kyrie eleison). At a certain moment the Holy Light flashes from the depth of the Holy Sepulchre in a supernatural way, miraculously, and lights up the little lamp of olive oil put on the edge of it. The Patriarch (or the Archbishop), after having read some prayers, lights up the two clusters of 33 candles he is holding, and begins to distribute the Holy Light to the multitude of pilgrims, who receive it with great emotion, accompanied with the pealing of bells, acclamations, and an unbridled enthusiasm, ?????? ???? ????? ?????

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived to Israel on Saturday night to give another push to the lagging peace process between the Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Upon her arrival to the Inbal hotel in Jerusalem, Rice blasted Israel’s latest plan to build over 1,000 houses for Jewish settlers in east Jerusalem, saying that the building is “simply not helpful to building confidence” between Israel and the PA. Israel announced plans for the new settlement on Friday, bringing the total new homes planned in the area to more than 3,000.

Spaffords and American Colony
This is a historical lesson about Horatio and Ann Spafford who started the American Colony in Jerusalem. They started hospitals, orphanages and soup kitchens and provided relief in Jerusalem around the time of WWI. Colonel Charles Gordan who saw the skull at skull hill and connected it to the spot of Jesus’ death and ressurrection was staying at the American Colony which is just across from skull hill. (See my Garden Tomb video). Today the American Colony is just a fancy hotel as you will see in the video!
