Is King David how we would view a King today?

Posted by admin on June 23rd, 2010 and filed under king david | 3 Comments »

As Moses was a prince, or Pharaoh-ette (?)of Egypt.

Does that mean that David was also how one would view Kings today?

No, King David had a very close relationship with God, he wrote the Psalms, and God had promised him that his family line would be long lasting and do great things and many of his decisions were based on his strong belief in God, Monarchs today do not rule as King David did.

If King David were tried for his crimes (Bathsehba, adultery) according to OT law, what would his punishment b?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010 and filed under king david | 6 Comments »

The Old Testament laws as listed in Deuteronomy (Deut. 5:18, 21 NIV – You shall not commit adultery, you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife…) were broken by King David with in his affair with Uriah’s wife Bathsheba.

Suppose he was tried for his crimes, what would he be found guilty of? If anything, how would he be punished?

Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die."(2 Samuel 12:13)

David was tried, and punishment was pronounced; the Lord spoke to Nathan the prophet, who then spoke to king David: ‘…the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me…’(12:10) This meant that David would always be at war with one nation or another throughout his lifetime in this world – and he did continue to go to war until he grew old and fell off of his horse.

The Lord also told David through the prophet: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you.’(12:11) The first son Bathsheba gave birth to died.(12:14)

Later, David’s own son Absalom led an insurrection that drove the king into exile. In a tent pitched on the roof of the palace, Absalom slept with David’s concubines for all of Israel to see.(16:22)

One accomplishment for which king David is known for?

What is One accomplishment for which king David was known for in Ancient Israel? Also one that was well known for Solomon?

Solomon was the one who built the first Jewish temple. He used the plans that David was going to use. David didn’t built the temple because God told David not to. However the materials for the temple were prepared and the plans drafted on the orders of David.

What are two important lessons we can learn from King David? (found in I and II Samuel)?

Posted by admin on June 14th, 2010 and filed under king david | 8 Comments »

What are two important lessons we can learn from the life of King David? and it would be great if you could explain it in a bit of detail.

Thanks in advance!

1) We will see our children in Heaven:

2 Sa 12:23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

2) God may speak to us quietly as when we are lying in our bed. See 1 Sa 3:3-10.

3) God will hold parents accountable for NOT disciplining their children. See 1 Sa 3:13-17

4) It is better in war to have God on your side than heavy armament:

1Sa 17:45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

It is my personal opinion that David could have killed Goliath with a wooden spoon; he simply had unshakable faith that the battle was the Lords.

There are of course many more lessons in these two books that there is NOT room to address here…
