1. MOON DUST
Meteoritic dust falls on the earth continuously, adding up to thousands, if not millions, of tons of dust per year. Realizing this, and knowing that the moon also had meteoritic dust piling up for what they thought was millions of years, N.A.S.A. scientists were worried that the first lunar ship that landed would sink into the many feet of dust which should have accumulated.
However, only about one-eight of an inch of dust was found, indicating a young moon.
Meteoritic material contributes nickel to the oceans. Taking the amount of nickel in the oceans and the supply from meteoritic dust yields an age figure for the earth of just several thousand years, not the millions (or billions) expressed by evolutionists. This, and the lack of meteoritic dust piles on the earth, lend to the belief in a young earth.
2. MAGNETIC FIELD
The earth’s magnetic field is decaying rapidly, at a constant (if not decreasing) rate. At this rate, 8000 years ago the earth’s magnetism would have equaled that of a magnetic star, a highly unlikely occurrence. Also, if electric currents in the earth’s core are responsible for the earth’s magnetism, the heat generated by these currents 20,000 years ago would have dissolved the earth.
3. FOSSIL RECORD
Charles Darwin stated, in his Origin of Species, "The geological record is extremely imperfect and this fact will to a large extent explain why we do not find intermediate varieties, connecting together all the extinct and existing forms of life by the finest graduated steps. He who rejects these views on the nature of the geological record, will rightly reject my whole theory."
Now, 130 years and billions of fossils later, we can rightly reject the view of an incomplete fossil record or of one "connecting together all . . . forms of life by the finest graduated steps."
Out of the millions of fossils in the world, not one transitional form has been found. All known species show up abruptly in the fossil record, without intermediate forms, thus contributing to the fact of special creation. Let’s take a look at Archeopteryx, a fossil that some evolutionists claim to be transitional between reptile and bird.
Archeopteryx is discussed in evolutionist Francis Hitching’s book, The Neck of the Giraffe – Where Darwin Went Wrong. Hitching speaks on six aspects of Archeopteryx, following here.
(The following six points are quoted from Luther Sunderland’s book, Darwin’s Enigma: Fossils and Other Problems, pp. 74-75, the facts of which points he gathered from Hitching’s book.)
1. It had a long bony tail, like a reptile’s.
In the embryonic stage, some living birds have more tail vertebrae than Archeopteryx. They later fuse to become an upstanding bone called the pygostyle. The tail bone and feather arrangement on swans are very similar to those of Archeopteryx.
One authority claims that there is no basic difference between the ancient and modern forms: the difference lies only in the fact that the caudal vertebrae are greatly prolonged. But this does not make a reptile.
2. It had claws on its feet and on its feathered forelimbs.
However, many living birds such as the hoatzin in South America, the touraco in Africa and the ostrich also have claws. In 1983, the British Museum of Natural History displayed numerous species within nine families of birds with claws on the wings.
3. It had teeth.
Modern birds do not have teeth but many ancient birds did, particularly those in the Mesozoic. There is no suggestion that these birds were transitional. The teeth do not show the connection of Archeopteryx with any other animal since every subclass of vertebrates has some with teeth and some without.
4. It had a shallow breastbone.
Various modern flying birds such as the hoatzin have similarly shallow breastbones, and this does not disqualify them from being classified as birds. And there are, of course, many species of nonflying birds, both living and extinct.
Recent examination of Archeopteryx’s feathers has shown that they are the same as the feathers of modern birds that are excellent fliers. Dr. Ostrom says that there is no question that they are the same as the feathers of modern birds. They are asymmetrical with a center shaft and parallel barbs like those of today’s flying birds.
5. Its bones were solid, not hollow, like a bird’s.
This idea has been refuted because the long bones of Archeopter
cause they do not have an open mind there just fixated on that one theory and not exploring others that just might make more sense such as creation . i guess that they might not want to be wrong or something. i do not think you should think too hard about that ppl will always have there own opinions and you cant change their minds about it so why try?

What I’ve understood from LDS is that I need to pray about if the Book of Mormon is true. That’s about all I’m given to tell if it’s true and the events took place.
With the Bible:
Archeology confirms that the coins mentioned in the Bible are there, The wall of Jerusalem was found, The wall of Jericho, types of boats described and on and on.
Geography: We can take Holy Land tours and see the places talked about.
Outside sources: There are other ancient documents that talk about the same events and people.
I’ve seen references and pictures of these things.
If the Book of Mormon is true and there were civilizations the size of Rome talked about, we should expect these kinds of things to be found.
I don’t know of any evidence of horses and chariots found for that time period in America. I don’t know of any documents listing the Nephites, or any findings of the coins used or anything. Would you let me know of a museum or something that I could see these?
Thanks,
Mike
Edward – Thanks for the link. When I look at archaeological evidence parts, I mostly see statements like this from the website:
"In general, I feel that the yardstick you use to compare the Bible with the Book of Mormon is unfair." We have lots of evidence for American Indian tribes and stuff. I’m not finding anything for the Book of Mormon. Can you point out a page for me if I’m missing it? I just see a few references to names and stuff.
Thanks,
Mike
R. Rosskopf. That’s pretty much what the LDS missionaries told me also. Nothing specific, just some generalizations. No specific coins, no outside documents, no chariots for example. The specifics don’t match up as far as I can tell.
rickles30 – I never watch South Park and especially as a source of information. If you were trying to make fun, please don’t. That’s not my intent.
As far as the Bible, obviously archaeological evidence won’t be complete. I don’t think anyone can realistically expect all to be found. I would expect some things to be found and I would expect it to not contradict if it were accurate history.
kcyesye – Regarding, "You need faith to believe that Christ lives, that he walked on this earth, that he taught and showed men the way, that he suffered and died for our sins. None of this has been historically proven to have happened."
Yes. There is definitely evidence that it happened. Even Jewish and other non-Christian writings of the time record the events. No serious historian doubts the historicity of Jesus regarding his existence and crucifixion. Also, even non-Christians use the Bible, especially Luke, as information for history and archaeology since it’s being shown as accurate so far.
There are rivers and places in the americas with the same names as in the book of mormon to start.

George Smith, a self-taught Assyriologist, who one momentous afternoon in 1872 was working at the British Museum, going through a pile of Layard’s clay tablets. Suddenly, Smith realized that he was reading about "a flood storm, a ship caught on a mountain, and a bird sent out in search of dry land."

Because the sort of people who believe the bible are also the sort of people who don’t believe in evidence, and only believe what their pastor tells them to.

1. The Jewish people would be scattered worldwide; yet Israel would become a nation again-ref Isa 66:8; Mic 5:3. Prophecy fulfilled. This happened exactly as predicted on May 14, 1948. That’s 1 out of 1.
Note: Israel was destroyed in approximately 721 B.C. and Judah about 135 years later. For the last 2500 years, approximately fourteen different peoples have possessed the land of Israel. Nevertheless, the Bible showed that the day would come when the nation of Israel would be reborn.
The rebirth of Israel was a key sign, indicating we had entered a time period called the latter days. It was the beginning of a countdown leading to the Tribulation and culminating with the Battle of Armageddon and the return of Jesus immediately after. Along with the fulfillment of this crucial event are over 360 prophecies that would all come together, so we might recognize that the Tribulation is very close at hand. Twenty nine of them are listed here.
Yet the Bible foretells that most people would not believe these things, despite the overwhelming evidence of the fulfillment of the signs from God’s Word and the incredible rebirth of Israel happening exactly as predicted. As people refused to believe the flood was coming in Noah’s time, so people today willingly choose to disregard the signs of the times.
2. Israel shall be brought forth in one day, at once-ref Isa 66:8. Prophecy fulfilled-May 14, 1948. That’s 2 out of 2.
Note: On Nov. 29, 1947, the General Assembly of the U.N. approved a resolution calling for the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine. On the morning of May 14, 1948 (the last day of the British mandate), a meeting of the People’s Council took place in Israel to decide on the name of the state and to finalize the declaration. At exactly 4pm, the proclamation ceremony began at the Tel Aviv museum. The 979 Hebrew words of the Scroll of Independence were read. All stood, and the scroll was adopted. The notorious White Paper, issued by the British in 1930 restricting Jewish immigration, was declared null and void. Members of the People’s Council signed the proclamation. David Ben-Gurion rapped his gavel, declaring, “The State of Israel is established. This meeting is ended.” Israel was brought forth as a nation in one day, at once. It happened exactly as predicted. At midnight, the British soldiers and high commissioner would leave. President Truman was swift in announcing U.S. recognition of Israel. The following morning, on May 15, Israel was under armed attack by the Egyptians, Syrians, Lebanese, Jordanians, and Iraqis.
3. The rebirth of Israel would happen after many days. It would occur a long time in the future after the prophecy was made and at the time the bible calls the latter days-Ezek 38:8. Prophecy fulfilled-May 14, 1948. That’s 3 out of 3.
Note: It is estimated that this prophecy was made around 580 B.C. Approximately 2500 years later, in 1948, this prophecy was fulfilled.
4. Israel would be brought forth (or reborn) “out of the nations.”-Ezek 38:8. Prophecy fulfilled-May 14, 1948. That’s 4 out of 4.
Note: As previously stated, on Nov. 29, 1947, the General Assembly of the “United Nations” approved a resolution calling for the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine. This prophecy was perfectly fulfilled. Consider, for centuries the land of Israel had been occupied by many nations. Israel was “brought forth out of the nations”—the children of Israel from many nations were returning to their ancient homeland.
5. Israel must regain the city of Jerusalem-Joel 2:32; Isa 28:14; Ezek 22:19. This happened just as predicted in 1967. That’s 5 out of 5.
Note: The Bible gives us two methods so we would know we are in the last generation. One is by Israel’s rebirth. The other, by a precise line of events that would all come together at one time. Israel was reborn on May 14th, 1948. The Bible indicates that from Israel’s rebirth a generation would not pass till all be fulfilled. A Jewish generation is figured from the age of 20 to 60 (1968). We are not setting any date, but it seems clear that we are living in that generation now.
6. The Christian church at the time of the end would be lukewarm, neither cold nor hot for Jesus. Prophecy fulfilled. That’s 6 out of 6.
Note: God will spew them out. Many church leaders and people that call themselves a Christian and are sure they are saved will not be going to heaven. The Bible tells us—you have acquired wealth, but your true condition is wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked and you don’t know it-Rev 3:14-22. This is today’s church. Most churches preach very little Scripture, but lots of worldly stories. Many sing a great deal, but put very little emphasis on repentance, obeying, serving, and fearing God, the fruits of the Spirit, Bible prophecy, water baptism by immersion, and studying your Bible faithfully every day.
theyguy: I sincerely hope your answer was sarcastic, lol. I have no wish to convert you into a Christian. I am trying to recover from Christianity myself. That stuff messes with your head like you wouldn’t believe.
amaya: I do not wish to offend you. Perhaps I should have used the word "unbelievers". It was just one of those moments when I wasn’t thinking clearly about everything (I’m sleep-deprived, lol)
Just so you know, these are not my words…I copied and pasted.
I no longer call myself a Christian.
1. There are several mundane ways in which a prediction of the future can be fulfilled:
1. Retrodiction. The "prophecy" can be written or modified after the events fulfilling it have already occurred.
2. Vagueness. The prophecy can be worded in such a way that people can interpret any outcome as a fulfillment. Nostradomus’s prophecies are all of this type. Vagueness works particularly well when people are religiously motivated to believe the prophecies.
3. Inevitability. The prophecy can predict something that is almost sure to happen, such as the collapse of a city. Since nothing lasts forever, the city is sure to fall someday. If it has not, it can be said that according to prophecy, it will.
4. Denial. One can claim that the fulfilling events occurred even if they have not. Or, more commonly, one can forget that the prophecy was ever made.
5. Self-fulfillment. A person can act deliberately to satisfy a known prophecy.
There are no prophecies in the Bible that cannot easily fit into one or more of those categories.
2. In biblical times, prophecies were not simply predictions. They were warnings of what could or would happen if things did not change. They were meant to influence people’s behavior. If the people heeded the prophecy, the events would not come to pass; Jonah 3 gives an example. A fulfilled prophecy was a failed prophecy, because it meant people did not heed the warning.
3. The Bible also contains failed prophecies, in the sense that things God said would happen did not (Skeptic’s Annotated Bible n.d.). For example:
* Joshua said that God would, without fail, drive out the Jebusites and Canaanites, among others (Josh. 3:9-10). But those tribes were not driven out (Josh. 15:63, 17:12-13).
* Ezekiel said Egypt would be made an uninhabited wasteland for forty years (29:10-14), and Nebuchadrezzar would plunder it (29:19-20). Neither happened.
4. Other religions claim many fulfilled prophecies, too (Prophecy Fulfilled n.d.).
Let’s say you want your son to be a doctor. There’s a lot of good to be done for mankind there, right? You push him and push him, but he’d rather be an astronaut. You try and you try to "doctor him up." You make him watch doctor tv shows, go see medical exhibits at the science museum (while steering him away from the space exhibit he would actually be able to relate to) but nothing works. You try to convince him: "astronauts and space programs do nothing to make things better on earth! it isn’t God’s will!" after all, isn’t it the point of the story of the tower of Babel that mankind shouldn’t be so proud as to climb so high to God?
Still, he goes off and becomes an astronaut. You disown him. Then one day, his space ship lands on Mars. Your son’s foot is the first human foot to step on Martian soil ( a la Neil Armstrong on the Moon)
Mankind is united in joy and wonders together at God’s creation. A spiritual reawakening is born.
Doesn’t this show that sometimes it is possible that what our children do can be better for the world than we can possibly understand, even if we feel it will do nothing to help the longevity of our species? Wouldn’t this show that, while the Bible is the world of God, that never means Mankind has interpreted those words one hundred percent correctly (taking it as a given that much of what we understand from the Bible is Truth) and that to claim Mankind could ever understand the complete Truth of a Perfect Being as God perfectly is mere arrogance? Your thoughts are appreciated.
in response to"james": I’m not challenging Christianity, I’m merely looking for a Christian perspective. And what makes you say my God is finite? For all you know we belong to the exact same sect of Christianity. If we do, haven’t you just insulted both of our Gods?
Admittedly, this question is part one to another. Part 2 here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080817031815AA1HiMJ
I don’t feel that the Bible emphasizes increasing the longevity of our species, actually. Mostly it emphasizes trusting in Jesus, and then doing what one can to glorify God and bring others to Him. And I don’t think anyone would claim to fully grasp everything in the Bible. The point is to study it throughout your life in an attempt to.

Scientists discover oldest footprints on Earth
Scientists discover fossilized footprints of 395 million-year-old four-legged creature
Discovery pushes the evolutionary scale back by nearly 20 million years
Compared in significance to discovery of the first miocene hominoids
(CNN) — Scientists have found the oldest fossilized footprints made by a four-legged creature forcing a rethink on when fish first crawled out of water and onto land.
The discovery of the footprints in a former quarry in the Holy Cross Mountains in south-eastern Poland are thought to be 395-million years old — 18 million years older than the earliest tetrapod (a vertebrate with limbs rather than fins) body fossils.
The report published Thursday in the science journal Nature says the footprints of the tetrapod measure up to 26 (10 inches) centimeters wide, which scientists say is indicative of an animal around 2.5 (7.5 feet) meters in length.
The footprints are also 10 million years earlier than the oldest known elpistostegids — creatures which displayed some animal characteristics but retained fins.
Philippe Janvier from the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, and reviewer of the paper told CNN: "It is a really stunning discovery because it’s the earliest evidence we have of tetrapods. These footprints are clear enough to attest that tetrapods were there 395 millions years ago."
The report’s authors say their findings "force a radical reassessment of the timing, ecology and environmental setting of the fish-tetrapod transition, as well as the completeness of the body fossil record."
As well as finding fossilized footprints, Per Ahlberg, Professor of Evolutionary Organismal Biology, Uppsala University, Sweden and his co-authors from the Polish Geological Institute in Warsaw also report finding several tracks of different sizes and characteristics.
The tracks, they say, have distinctive ‘hand’ and ‘foot’ prints and no evidence of a dragging body.
Ahlberg said in a video on the Nature Web site: "The trackway shows pairs of prints — the sort of tracks a salamander would leave if it walked. In order to make tracks like the ones found you need to have front legs and back legs that are about the same size."
Ahlberg said the disused quarry where the fossils were discovered has yielded some of the most exciting finds he has encountered in his career as a paleontologist.
Although Janvier describes the lack of skeletal evidence as "frustrating" it doesn’t undermine the importance of the discovery. "It changes what we thought about the evolutionary tree concerning the part dealing with transition from fish to land vertebrae." Janvier said.
"The divergence between the tetrapods and their closest fish relatives is much younger than previously thought and it obliges us to find actual evidence — skeletons or complete fossils — in much earlier strata that could enlighten us between this divergence."

Sounds like "science" admitting that they were wrong again! Why are they changing the time, oh yeah, time is supposed to heal all evolutionary wounds.
I’m very confused about Christianity…. And for some reason, my pastor brother can’t give me an answer to my many questions. They’re just questions, I’m not being a smart@$$.
So we have dinosaurs in museums. I learned about lots of them way back when, and I also remember Pangea (you know, when Earth only had basically one big chunk of land and then a meteor hit it and it broke into the continents we have today). So um…. when did this all happen?
Is there any mention of it in the Bible? This is why I’m so confused. I was raised in a church but always had questions and everyone always just told me "Just believe, that’s all you can do". Well too bad so sad. I am only looking for honest answers. Not trying to get an argument started.
Hmm… still confusing because it says "In the beginning". I take that as meaning literally in the beginning. Who’s God’s parents?
Ergh… I get too frustrated too quick.
Keep asking questions and find a new Church or new belief.
That’s my advice.
